About

Hannah Tonder started Tonder & Tonder in 2001 following in a tradition of textiles in her family. Initially she designed single colour palette percale bedlinen  inwhich her father Ivan's company, 'Artraco' printed & manufactured for her - hence the name Tonder & Tonder.

Artraco produced for customers nationally and internationally including Portmeirion, The Royal Collection, Cath Kidston and Wedgewood as well as selling under their own brand as 'Cally and Co' for which her mother Caroline designed.

Hannah's grandfather Ivo Tonder founded 'Ivo Prints' in 1963, a narrow width textile printing company in London. Formerly a RAF pilot shot down during the Battle of Britain, he survived as a prisoner of war and became one of the famous tunnellers in the Great Escape from Stalag Luft III. After escaping and avoiding execution he returned to his native Czechoslovakia, only to flee the communist regime years later and rebuild his life in England.

Hannah's great-uncle and aunt, Zika and Lida Ascher, had also moved to London, where they established the renowned Ascher Studio, collaborating with the likes of Cocteau, Henry Matisse, Henry Moore & Picasso.

Hannah still runs Tonder & Tonder from converted barns on the South Oxfordshire border. Over the years she has expanded the collection to include tablelinen, co-ordinating accessories, and ceramics designed in collaboration with Polly George.

Living with neurological conditions Hannah has chosen to simplify the range, whilst at the same time moving to a made-to-order model with each piece made especially for you.

For over 25 years Hannah has offered a personalised service to both individual and trade customers -a commitment that remains today, and she welcomes the chance to help you with any bespoke requests, large or small for bedlinen, bedding and towels.
